Salvation Terminology

Words Defined

In the Book of Romans is we find the very foundation for our salvation today. There are terms for our salvation that we use to describe what God has accomplished but do we really know what these words mean?

Here is a list of words that describe our salvation today:

  • RIGHTEOUSNESS - God's standard of perfection
  • IMPUTATION - God's righteousness credited to one's account
  • JUSTIFICATION - to reckon, or to declare one righteous
  • GRACE - the unmerited favor of God
  • REDEMPTION - freedom by payment of a price
  • PROPITIATION - satisfaction, or to satisfy
  • FAITH - taking God at His word and leaving the consequences to rest upon His faithfulness
  • REMISSION - basically means "forgiveness" - to send away, to loose or release
  • FORBEARANCE - patiently waiting for the payment of a debt
  • RECONCILIATION - to restore to friendship and fellowship
  • SANCTIFICATION - to separate, to set apart as holy unto God

Scriptures that explain our salvation:

(Romans 3:21-28 KJV) But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; {22} Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: {23} For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; {24} Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: {25} Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; {26} To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. {27} Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. {28} Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.
(Romans 4:23-25 KJV) Now it was not written for his sake alone, that it was imputed to him; {24} But for us also, to whom it shall be imputed, if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; {25} Who was delivered for our offences, and was raised again for our justification.
(Romans 5:10 KJV) For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.
(1 Corinthians 1:30 KJV) But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
