1 and 2 CorinthiansPaul's letters to the church in Corinth were written to a carnal church. In addition to the divisions of spiritual gifts, immorality was a problem. It is important to note that although there were sinful acts taking place that their salvation was not lost because salvation is not based on what we do or do not do, the basis for our salvation is always what Christ has accomplished on the cross. In these letters Paul defends his apostleship and taught on the resurrection of Christ. I CorinthiansThe Epistles written to the church of Corinth were written as a reproof. Paul had to write to them so that they could learn to correct the way they were living. This first epistle can be divided into three things that the church at Corinth needed to correct:
Thinking like God, living like God, and laboring together with God are three components of godliness. 1 Corinthians is a book of reproof for one living ungodly. All three of these components were missing in the church at Corinth. The Corinthians had no appreciation for what God is doing today. |
