Colossians

In Ephesians, Philippians and Colossians, Paul emphasizes our union with Christ, that we have died and are risen with Him. We are members of the body of Christ and Christ is the head of the body. Colossians warns of not holding fast to the head of the body (Christ).

Paul writes to the Colossians that in Christ we are freed from the law, outward appearances of religion (do's and don'ts), and questions why, then, do we subject ourselves to such things. If one feels the need to go back into some type of "works system" then one fails to understand the completeness that is in Christ. In Christ, we are complete and we do not need to follow a ritual or tradition of man to be in perfect standing with God. He writes to put off the old man and put on the new man, which is complete in Christ.

Our standing is complete and perfect in Christ. We cannot grow in this standing because it is already accomplished, but we can grow in the knowledge, experience and awareness of it.
